INFORMACIÓN SOBRE: GUELAGUETZA 2013.
I took me 13 years to attend again “La Guelaguetza”, I’m not sure why it took me too long but I knew for sure that I didn’t want to miss it this year on its 80th anniversary.
Guelaguetza or Los lunes del cerro (Mondays on the Hill) is an annual indigenous cultural event that takes place in Oaxaca México.
The word Guelaguetza comes from the Zapotec language and is usually interpreted as the “reciprocal exchanges of gifts and services”. At the end of each dance when they throw different kind of products to the public like small fruit, hats, and even coconuts and pineapples.
This event is preceded by colorful parades along the streets of Oaxaca where you can also enjoy their music and traditions.
I want to share with you this first part of the pictures that I took during this festivities from this land well known for its music, folklore and diversity.
